The
mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young
people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes
by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and
Scout Law.
|
On
my honor
I
will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself
physically
strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.
|
A Scout is ...
trustworthy,
loyal,
helpful,
friendly,
courteous, kind,
obedient,
cheerful,
thrifty, brave,
clean,
and reverent. |
Baden-Powell,
our founder, called Scouting a "game with a purpose."
Our purpose is to help youth grow in citzenship, character,
and mental, moral and physical fitness. Our effectiveness
as adult leaders depends on how well we understand the
aims and methods of the program.
But
kids are attracted by the "game" portions -
outdoor activities and just plain fun. Training will help
you accomplish both parts, plus provide you wiht lots
of resources and ideas. In the process, you'll gain friends
and find out that the youth are not the only ones enjoying
themselves!
